Gavin Burls and his shark
154 pounds = 70 kilos

Thought you might like to see this photo of my brother Gavin
with the shark
(154 lbs) he caught off the west pier. He was with us in November on a few weeks
holiday, so I sent some pages of your Port Alfred history back with him for my
Mom to see, pertinent to people she would remember. She is now 96 and still
bright as a button and was extremely interested in reading it.
I am at last installing e-mail at home so will be able to keep in better comms
with you, although I do get all the news from Rosemany. Will let you have
the address when its up and running.
You are perfectly correct, I was at Katberg - worked there from 1981 to 1986. It
was our first port of call when we arrived from Rhodesia in 1980.
Since then we moved quite a bit, Queenstown, Fort Beaufort, George and lastly
Hermanus. Strangely enough we ran hotels in all those places, so we are, or were
all in the hospitality industry. I really loved it.
I have misplaced all my old Port Alfred photos, hopefully I will find them
sometime and can send some on to you. I remember I had plenty of us all swimming
in the old lagoon.
Good luck with it all and keep up the good work
Avril (Smith born Burls)
